Classification of R plasmids by incompatibility in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

چکیده
R plasmids identified in Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains isolated in our laboratories were classified by their incompatibility characters by using intraspecies conjugation in P. aeruginosa. The fertility factor, FP2, was compatible with R plasmids belonging to all groups, and was classified in a new group. From these data, the plasmids examined have been placed into seven or eight incompatibility groups.

Properties of an R plasmid in Pseudomonas aeruginosa producing amikacin (BB-K8), butirosin, kanamycin, tobramycin, and sisomicin resistance.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain GN315, producing kanamycin acetyltransferase, can transmit a plasmid determining resistance to kanamycin, amikacin (BB-K8), butirosin, tobramycin, and sisomicin, but not gentamicin, to other pseudomonas strains. This plasmid, pMG5, belongs to the same incompatibility group as plasmids determining gentamicin resistance in P. aeruginosa via gentamicin acetyltransfera...
متن کاملDeoxyribonucleic acid-deoxyribonucleic acid hybridization of R factors.
A new method of estimating deoxyribonucleic acid homology is presented and used to measure the homology between bacterial plasmids of different compatibility groups. Deoxyribonucleic acid of the P-group plasmid RP1, originally isolated in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, has considerable (50%) homology with an N-group plasmid of the Enterobacteriaceae.
متن کاملEmergence of Ciprofloxacin Resistance Among Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Isolated from Burn Patients
Background: Increasing resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to ciprofloxacin in ICU/burn units has created a problem in the treatment of infections caused by this microorganism. Methods: Fifty P. aeruginosa strains were isolated from burn patients hospitalized in the Kerman Hospital during May 1999-April 2000 and were tested for in-vitro sensitivity to different antibiotics by disc diffusion br...
متن کاملResistance plasmids of Pseudomonas aeruginosa: change from conjugative to nonconjugative in a hospital population.
Properties of a population of carbenicillin- and gentamicin-resistant, tobramycin-susceptible Pseudomonas aeruginosa at Veteran's Administration Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio, have been followed during a 16-month period. As originally described, the strains were isolated from patients with urinary tract colonizations and were predominantly Parke-Davis immunotype 7. For the majority of these organi...
متن کاملCarbapenem-hydrolyzing GES-5-encoding gene on different plasmid types recovered from a bacterial community in a sewage treatment plant.
Plasmids pRSB113 and pRSB115 were recovered from an activated sludge bacterial community of a municipal wastewater treatment plant in Germany. Both plasmids carry the same bla(GES-5) carbapenemase gene, located within two distinct class 1 integrons. These plasmids have different backbones, belong to different incompatibility groups, and could replicate in both Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escheri...
